Millersville Borough Traffic Signal Grant Announcement https://millersvilleborough.org/millersville-borough-traffic-signal-grant-announcement/ Wed, 05 Aug 2026 16:10:23 +0000 https://millersvilleborough.org/?p=10174 Millersville Borough Awarded $450,720 State Grant to Modernize Traffic Signals

Millersville, PA – Millersville Borough is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $450,720 through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Green Light-Go Program to modernize traffic signal infrastructure at six key intersections throughout the Borough.

The grant-funded project will upgrade traffic signal equipment at the following intersections:

  • Millersville Road, Manor Avenue, and Millersville Pike
  • Blue Rock Road, Manor Avenue, George Street, and Shertzer Lane
  • Millersville Road, Barbara Street, and Oak Knoll Circle
  • George Street and Frederick Street
  • Manor Avenue, Herr’s Market driveway, and Turkey Hill driveway
  • Manor Avenue and Leaman Avenue

The improvements will focus on installing modern radar vehicle detection technology and enhancing pedestrian accessibility at each location. Radar detection systems allow traffic signals to respond more accurately to real-time traffic conditions, improving traffic flow while reducing delays and maintenance costs associated with older in-pavement detection systems. The project will also include accessibility enhancements to pedestrian signal equipment to better serve residents and visitors of all abilities.

This project builds on the Borough’s successful modernization of the George Street and Cottage Avenue traffic signal, continuing a long-term strategy of replacing aging equipment with smarter, more reliable technology throughout the Borough. Together, these investments are creating a more responsive and resilient transportation network that will benefit the community for years to come.

“These upgrades are an important investment in the safety and efficiency of Millersville’s transportation network,” said Borough Manager Rebecca DeSantis-Randall. “By modernizing these intersections with radar detection technology and improved pedestrian accessibility, we’re making our roadways safer and more reliable for everyone who lives, works, studies, and travels through our community. We’re grateful to PennDOT and the Commonwealth for investing in projects that improve quality of life while reducing the financial burden on our local taxpayers.”

The six intersections selected for improvement are among the Borough’s busiest and serve residents, businesses, Millersville University, emergency responders, and thousands of motorists each day. The upgrades will improve the reliability of the traffic signal system while supporting safer travel for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals with disabilities.

The Green Light-Go Program is a competitive statewide initiative that helps municipalities modernize traffic signals to improve safety, reduce congestion, and increase mobility across Pennsylvania.

Engineering and construction schedules will be announced as the project moves forward. Residents will be notified in advance of any temporary traffic impacts associated with the work.

Millersville Borough appreciates PennDOT, Governor Josh Shapiro’s Administration, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for their continued partnership and investment in safer, more efficient transportation infrastructure for our community.
