Are you prepared for a natural disaster?
No matter what your answer is, Elizabethtown College students want to hear from you.
Five students are doing a Community-Based Research project on the preparedness of Lancaster County residents. Their goal is to compile a report for the Department of Public Safety.
“With recent events of national disasters across the United States, we want to see which Lancaster County residents are most prepared for an emergency,” said Jack Pigman, a senior Criminal Justice major.
The students want to reach both people who are prepared and unprepared for an emergency, whether due to special needs, such as disability, language barriers, or even just geographical location. The students want to help people understand their level of preparedness and identify areas in the county where more assistance may be needed in an emergency situation.
“We’re not just doing it for the sake of our project or to get a good grade, we’re genuinely invested because we want the residents of Lancaster County to be prepared,” said Eily Barker, a senior Criminal Justice major.
Composed of two different teams, Public Relations and Data Collection, the five students involved have created a survey for residents of Lancaster County to take with the guidance of Sociology Professor Dr. Michele Lee Kozimor.
